About this collection

The Service Workers Union - SEIU Local 82 Oral History Project includes 13 oral history interviews collected from 1993 to 1997 by Service Employees International Union branch Local 82, which tell the stories of service industry workers, union members, and organizers in Washington, DC.

The interviews focus on the experiences of SEIU union members working and organizing in the service industry within both government agencies and private companies, as well as challenges to unionization. Many of the interviewees held leadership positions within SEIU Local 82.

The interviews were conducted as part of SEIU Local 82's Service Workers' Oral History and Education Project and donated to DC Public Library by the union. All known interview tapes and transcripts for the collection were digitized in summer 2014.

The D.C. Public Library holds copyright for the collection. There are no restrictions on the use of this collection.
